The „Queer-Referat“ seeks to represent all queer students as part of the General Students’ Committee at the University of Bonn, i.e. everyone marginalized due to their sexual, romantic and/or gender identity. Our work rests on two pillars: we provide civic education on topics of sexual, romantic and gender diversity from as intersectional a perspective as possible and pursue community building with a variety of social events. Our library and a counseling service complement these offers.
Our semester program usually includes lectures, discussion nights („Themenabende“), readings and workshops to which all students (whether queer or not) are invited. With documentaries, museum visits, open stage formats and, in the past, our own art exhibition, we furthermore want to promote both access to culture and cultural production by queer students themselves. During the opening hours in our office („coffee hours“) as well as the monthly regulars‘ tables and game nights, you also have the opportunity to escape the everyday (university) life for a moment to socialize.
Have a look at our calendar for an overview of all events. While the titles are in German, there will be English descriptions for most of them and lots of people attending our events will usually gladly talk to you in English!
We also have a library providing academic literature from the fields of gender and queer studies, as well as fiction, magazines and some DVDs.
